Description

Vale Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 17th century, with a 19th-century addition and alterations, and has been renovated in the 20th century. The original section is timber-framed and cased in red brick laid in Flemish bond, with a rendered gable. The 19th-century addition is also made of brick, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. The building features red brick stacks and consists of a single-storey and attic range, with a two-storey addition forming a cross range to the left.

The early range has three bays and an end lobby-entry to the left, with four casement windows set under segmental arches. There is a gabled porch to the left and a further 20th-century door under a segmental arch leading to the end room on the right. The roof has three gabled dormers and a ridge stack to the left. The 20th-century brick addition at the rear has a slate roof, and the two-storey range includes casement windows under segmental arches, as well as French windows beneath a 20th-century conservatory on the left return.

Inside the single-storey range, there is a somewhat rebuilt inglenook with a timber bressummer, and the beams and joists are chamfered with tongue stops. A 18th-century door leads to the central room, which features a plain beam and exposed joists. Despite the external remodeling, the house retains enough of its character to be of interest as a surviving example of the once common single-storey and attic type.
