Description

A coach-house and stables, dating to the 17th century with alterations and additions made in the 18th century and later. The building is constructed of red brick in both English and Flemish bond, and may have a timber-framed core to part of it. It has a plain tile roof. The building is two storeys high. Originally L-shaped with a gabled cross wing to the rear left, this wing has been truncated. The front elevation is brick in Flemish bond, and features mainly 20th-century inserted doors and windows. The roof is hipped on the right-hand side. The right return is rendered and has casement windows with arched lights, echoing the style of Stour Cottage. The rear elevation includes a rebuilt stack to the gable end of the cross wing. A double plank door with long strap hinges stands beneath a segmental carriage arch at the centre, with a plank stable door with long L-shaped hinges to the right, and a pitching door above. The building originally served as a service range for Stour House. It underwent renovation at the time of resurvey. The interior was not inspected.
