Description
The Red Lion is a public house with probable origins in the 17th century, featuring later alterations and additions. It is timber-framed and rendered, with a colourwashed brick front and stacks, topped by a plain tile roof. The building has two storeys and a three-window front, with a single-storey projecting addition to the left of the entrance. There is a single-storey gabled cross wing to the rear left and a two-storey gabled cross wing to the rear right. The entrance is off-centre and set under a segmental arch. To the right of the entrance, there is a 4-light cross casement window, also under a segmental arch. To the left, a canted projecting bay features a tripartite sash window with glazing bars on the front and 16-pane sashes on the sides. On the first floor, there are three 20th-century cross casements. The building has a cornice and a swept roof with three gabled dormers that contain casements. There is an end stack to the right and a later stack that rises through the front roof pitch to the left. At the rear, there is a single-storey wing with a steeply-pitched roof, a gabled dormer on the main range, and a two-storey wing with a large ridge stack and an addition under a pent roof.
