Description

Wren Cottage is a late 18th-century cottage with earlier origins, incorporating a 17th-century rear range. The front of the cottage is timber-framed and largely cased in brick, with rendered surfaces. It has a plain tile roof and two storeys, originally three bays wide. A central half-glazed door is set within a pilastered surround topped by an entablature. Six-pane sash windows are set within simple, flush wooden architraves. A stepped eaves course is visible, and there are end stacks. The rear range is single-storey with an attic, and features 20th-century casement windows and a rebuilt ridge stack. The interior of the rear range reveals exposed timber framing, including studded walls, a chamfered longitudinal beam with plain stops, and exposed joists. An inglenook fireplace is present, along with a clasped purlin roof.
