Description
The Court is a coach-house and stable block, now converted into cottages, dating from the 18th century with additions and conversion to cottages in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a plain tile roof. The building is one storey with an attic and is arranged in an L-plan.
On the left side, there is an off-centre pilastered and pedimented doorcase leading to a through passage, although the left wall has been reconstructed in 20th-century brick. To the left, there is a blocked cambered gauged brick arch with an inserted glazed door in a pilastered surround and a casement window. To the right, there are two flat gauged brick arches of blocked entrances with inserted casement windows.
The cross wing to the right has two sections. On the left side, there is a 20th-century door in a trellis porch, flanked by a 20th-century pane sash under a cambered gauged brick arch to the right and a fixed window with glazing bars under a segmental arch to the left. There are small casements with glazing bars above. To the right, there is a 19th-century addition featuring a 6-panel door in a trellis porch and a 16-pane sash under a segmental arch. There is a further addition to the right. The building has dentilled eaves throughout, and the roof is hipped on the left side.
This structure originally served as the coach-house and stable block for the Constable family house, which was sold in the early 19th century and subsequently demolished. The interior was not inspected.
