Description

The Lodge is a house that dates back to 1505, with significant remodelling in the 18th century and further enlargement and alterations in the early 20th century. The exterior features Tudor-style changes from the 20th century. It has a timber frame, partly encased in brick, and is rendered with an ashlar porch and detailing. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and there are red brick stacks. The house is two storeys high with nine irregular bays, and the section to the right of the porch is an early 20th-century addition.

The off-centre two-storey gabled porch has off-set angle buttresses topped with pinnacles. The entrance features a 4-centred arch beneath an oriel window, with a parapet and pinnacle above the gable. To the left of the porch, there are three sash windows with glazing bars and hoodmoulds on each floor, along with a staircase oriel. To the right, there is a square pilastered bay with a mullion and transom window, and four similar sashes on the first floor, all beneath a parapet with a band. The hipped double-span roof includes flat dormers and grouped octagonal corniced stacks in a 16th-century style.

Inside, the house was remodelled in the early 20th century, featuring an entrance hall with 17th-century style panelling, a chimneypiece, and a staircase. Some 16th-century moulded joists are present, and the first-floor ceiling of the hall incorporates three bays of moulded beams and joists into the later design. A room at the rear of the stair hall displays moulded joists, while other ground floor rooms have been remodelled in an 18th-century style. A photograph in the owner's possession shows the house before the 20th-century enlargement, displaying its earlier 18th-century remodelling with five symmetrical bays.
