Description
Apton Manor is a house located on The Street in Bergh Apton, dating from around 1600 and later. It is built of red brick and features a steeply pitched pantile roof, with smut pantiles visible on the front elevation. The house has two storeys and attics, with a south facade that displays irregularly spaced windows consisting of 2, 3, and 4 light casements, all of which are 20th-century replacements.
The south facade includes an off-centre porch that is 2½ storeys tall and dates from around 1700. This porch has rusticated brick quoins and dressings, as well as moulded string courses at each floor level. The gable is shaped and topped with ball finials. The porch features a semi-circular headed doorway, a 3-light casement on the first floor, and a circular attic casement with glazing bars. The gables are parapeted, and there is a later internal stack at the east gable, along with a central ridge stack that has three lozenge-shaped linked shafts.
On the north side of the house, there are two 2½ storey projections from the main range, each featuring an external stack on the east side with octagonal chimney shafts. The projections have 20th-century ground and first floor casements. The taller projection to the west has a blocked 3-light attic window with ovolo brick mullions. The entrance door is located in a lean-to between the projecting wings. There is also a long catslide extension to the west. At the south-east corner of the property, there is an attached red brick garden wall with a swept top and three bee boles.
