Description

Fairview is a house located on The Street in Redgrave, dating from the late 16th century. It was reduced in size and altered in the late 17th century, with further modifications made in the 20th century. The building has a timber frame that is plastered, and it features thatched roofs. It consists of three bays with an end stack and was originally likely three cells that extended further to the left. The house is one storey high with an attic.

The entrance is positioned slightly to the left of centre and features an architraved door with a hoodboard, leading to a glazed and pantiled lean-to porch. Flanking the entrance are two-light casement windows, and there are three gabled dormers with two lights each. The left end of the house is constructed entirely of 17th-century brick, which is whitewashed, and it includes an internal axial stack. The right end has a 17th-century external stack that tapers to a cap, with a pantiled brick oven outshut towards the front and exposed plates, along with weatherboarding behind the stack. At the rear, there are two lean-to outshuts made of clay lump and pantiles.

Inside, much of the frame is concealed, but there is a cross axial binding beam in the original 'hall' to the left, which has arched braces from the posts, although one has been removed. An arched brace extends from a corner post to the rear mid-rail, and there is a stop-chamfered fireplace bressumer. The attic features a four-light diamond mullioned window, and the roof is constructed with clasped purlins.
