Description
The icehouse at Ellingham Hall, dating from around 1830, features rendered brickwork with a facade made of flint, pebbles, and gault brick. It has an ovoid chamber with a stepped passageway and a Gothic-style facade that includes raised rubbed brick dressings around a four-centred doorway and an arched keyed parapet topped with a moulded cornice. Inside, there is a barrel-vaulted passage, and the chamber was formerly floored. A large hook is located at the crown of the vault, along with a surviving lead vent pipe.
