Description

The bridge over the castle moat and the two entrance lodges were built in the early 19th century, with the bridge dating to around 1825 and the lodges constructed in 1811 by Francis Stone. The structure is made of flint with stone and brick dressings, while the lodges are built from stone. The bridge features a single span with a semi-circular arch and is adorned with cast-iron railings, which were made in 1825 by Dixon & Sons of Norwich, positioned between square stone posts. Each lodge is a single storey with a square plan, featuring blind semi-circular arched windows. The bridge facade includes a door framed by double-order semi-circular arches, and there is a crenellated parapet topped with corner lamp-turrets.
