Description
North Lodge at Saltoun Hall is a pair of square castellated twin gate lodges built around 1800. They are cleverly joined and feature a drive that bridges over them, which was added around 1938. The lodges are harled, with base and impost courses and crenellated parapets.
The original lodges are single storey, with the east and west elevations being identical. Each lodge has recessed round arched panels, round arched windows, and long blind arrow slits on either side, with blind quatrefoils above. The doorways are located on the drive sides. Flat-roofed dormers were added to the outer pitches around 1935.
The bridges feature a crenellated bay that rises above the flanking lodges, with a segmental pend below. There are timber mullioned bipartite windows on the north and south sides. The windows have a small-pane glazing pattern in sash and case style, and the roofs are covered with grey slates and have harled slender stacks. The entrance is marked by simple two-leaf wrought-iron gates.
