Description

Spilmersford Bridge is a single span bridge, likely built in the late 18th century, spanning the River Tyne. It features a large overflow arch set back in a field to the west. The bridge is constructed of rubble with stugged voussoirs forming a broad segmental arch, which has a string course above it. There is also a low segmental arch located in the neighbouring field. The parapet over the arches and the connecting stretch curves to the east on the north side and is made of rubble with droved coping and quasi-dies, a style commonly found in bridges of East Lothian. The bridge is supported by polygonal end piers.
