Description

The Bell Hotel is a 17th-century hotel with 19th-century additions and significant 20th-century alterations. The building is rendered and constructed of red brick, with pantile roofs. It occupies an irregular island site. The facade facing Orford Hill is three storeys high, with four bays. A left-hand entrance features a damaged timber surround containing spandrels and a rusticated stucco semi-elliptical arch. Sash windows with glazing bars are present throughout, with side lights on the ground and first floors. Rusticated quoins and a moulded string course are visible at the first floor level. The building is finished with a crenellated parapet. The building is included on the list for its group value.
