Description
Wright's Court is a group of houses, now shops, dating from the 16th century, with remodels from the 19th century and later. The building is constructed of brick that is partly painted, featuring a rendered plinth. The second storey of No 3a has exposed timber framing with red-brick infill, and the roof is covered with pantiles. The structure is L-shaped and adjoins the rear of No 43 Elm Hill, likely forming part of an earlier courtyard house.
The main range, which includes Nos 1 and 2, has three storeys and a cellar. The windows are scattered, with two mullioned and transomed ground floor windows that have leaded lights, one of which features an iron casement. These windows are flanked by two doors: No 1 has a half-glazed door, while No 2 has a ribbed door with iron studs set in a moulded doorcase. To the left is a leaded casement window. On the first floor of No 1, there are two mullioned casements under segmental brick arches, including two 20th-century replacements.
Nos 3 and 3a run parallel to Elm Hill and feature a wooden doorcase with an overlight next to a large-panel sash window. The first floor has a large oriel window with eight lights, filleted mullions, and transoms, along with one second-floor casement window. The interiors of both parts contain moulded beams and panelling. The sequence of additions to the building can be seen from the rear wall visible from Norris Court Gardens.
