Description
The Church of St Simon and St Jude is a former parish church, now used as a store, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. It is constructed of flint with stone and brick dressings, topped with a slate roof. The building features a west tower, which is partly ruined and unbuttressed, along with a nave and chancel. The nave has four bays and includes a north doorway with attached shafts and a four-centre arch, leading to a two-leaf door adorned with tracery panels. The nave is illuminated by three-light perpendicular windows with two-centre arches, and there are cusped intersecting tracery windows in the two-bay nave. The east window is wide and features plain intersecting tracery, while a three-light perpendicular window is located on the south side of the chancel. Notable monuments from the 16th and 17th centuries commemorate the Pettus family, positioned on either side of the chancel arch, which has earlier mouldings encased within it.
