Description
Nos 11 and 13 Wensum Street is a building that was originally of unknown use and is now occupied by shops and a restaurant. It features a 15th-century undercroft and was heightened in the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 20th century. The exterior is rendered and topped with a black pantile roof. The building stands three stories tall and has a jettied first floor. The second floor has windows, while the left side has a three-bay shopfront with attached fluted columns that support a fascia. There is a central entry to a shopping arcade with a casement window to the side, and a tall two-storey shopfront on the right side. Casement windows are present throughout, and there is a flat modillion cornice. Beneath the street level, the remains of a brick-built undercroft from the 15th century can be seen, with two surviving side chambers featuring four-centred profiles; one extends beneath the street and the other is located in the north wall of the cellar. To the south of the former chamber is a part of a blocked opening that may represent another side chamber or a doorway.
