Description

The Maid's Head Hotel is a Grade II listed building located on Tombland, with origins dating back to the 15th century for its cellars and significant development from the 16th century onwards, including major facade alterations in the early 20th century. The hotel features a mix of red brick and rendered surfaces, along with timber framing, and is topped with pantiles and plain tiles.

The complex consists of at least six buildings. The Tombland facade is two storeys high, with three storeys to the left, and has four bays that extend to the left by two additional bays, including corner bays. A central 20th-century entrance features four doors beneath a flat hood. To the extreme right, there is a door with a round arch and attached columns that support an open pediment, accessed by four steps. The right-hand four bays contain sash windows with glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches, while the central entry above has 20th-century casement windows. A paired bracket cornice runs below the parapet, and there are four flat-roof dormers.

On the left side, a three-storey early 20th-century bay and corner bay extend into Wensum Street, featuring a door with a moulded timber surround and casement windows throughout, including corner and right-side oriels with gables above. The top floor displays pseudo-timber framing. Along Wensum Street, there are three structures that are two and three storeys tall, featuring jetties and a carriage entry to the north of the middle range.
