Description
70 The Close is a Grade I listed building that was formerly part of the Carnary College and is now used as a school and school offices. It dates from around 1830 but incorporates extensive remains from the 14th and 15th centuries. The building is rendered and has a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with eight bays. The left-hand off-centre door features a 15th-century moulded two-centre arch within a re-made flint and brick porch that has attached shafts and a two-centre arch. There is also a 15th-century doorway and staircase leading to the Carnary Chapel located at the extreme right-hand side of the building. Sash windows with glazing bars and moulded surrounds are present throughout, along with a string course between the first and second floors and a box cornice.
