Description
69 The Close is a Grade I listed former house that now serves as a school office. It dates back to the 17th century and possibly earlier. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings, and features a timber-framed section on the right side of the first floor. It has a pantile roof and is situated against the east end of the Carnary Chapel.
The central entrance door is adorned with a pilaster surround that includes lion-mask roundels. On either side of the door are 20th-century mullion and transom windows. To the right, there is a long 6-light frieze window. The first floor of the timber-framed section has two 20th-century mullion and transom windows, and there is a gable dormer with a 4-light window.
On the south elevation, there are two sash windows on each floor, along with one mullion and transom window in the attic, and a distinctive Dutch gable.
