Description

The former Catholic School, built in 1827 by J.T. Patience, is a two-storey building that has been converted from a Catholic Chapel and was empty at the time of the re-survey. The structure features white brick with red brick on the sides and has a hipped slate roof. It is arranged in three bays, with the central bay projecting. The central entrance is adorned with an Ionic hexastyle portico, and the entablature extends across the outer bays, acting as a stringcourse with pilasters above. The outer bays contain casement windows with glazing bars and rubbed brick semi-circular arches, while the central bay has a blind window. The building is topped with a modillion cornice and a pediment over the central bay, and it is enclosed by a simple cast-iron railing and gates. There have been 20th-century renovations.
