Description

The Bullock Shed at Whites Farm is a structure dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond and features a hipped thatched roof, with pantile roofs over the outshut aisles. The building is two storeys high and has a rectangular plan with a roof divided into four bays, which are formed by round-arched arcades that open into pens. There are segmental-arched cart entrances on the north and south faces, with the northern entrance partly bricked in and supported by a late 19th century or early 20th century buttress on one side. The building has close tumbling in to lean-to parapets and stable doors on both aisles. The western lean-to has a southmost bay that rises more steeply than the others and includes a covered staircase. Each elevation has a single window under the eaves, although the eastern window is blocked.

Inside, there is provision for timber boarding on the interior faces of the brick arcade piers, with the only surviving board displaying Victorian period graffiti. The first floor features a central trap door. The roof structure is double with collars and includes two tiers of wedge tenoned butt purlins. The lean-tos have a tie and strut roof that has been partly rebuilt, also featuring wedge tenoned butt purlins.
