Description

The Limes is an 18th-century house and offices, constructed of red brick with a black glazed pantile roof. It is two storeys high with attics, arranged in an L-shape. The symmetrical front facade has three bays. It features four Venetian windows with glazing bars, and a central first-floor sash window with a semi-circular head. Gauged brick arches are above the window and door openings. The central doorway has reeded Doric pilasters and an open pediment, leading to a six-panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight containing intersecting glazing bars. Panelled reveals are present on either side of the doorway. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the roofline. The gables are parapeted with tumbled clay and internal stacks. Attic lunettes are incorporated into the gables. A lower, single-storey range extends to the north with a hipped pantile roof; it has cross casement windows in altered openings and dog-tooth brick eaves. A two-storey range is located at the northwest corner, creating a double pile, featuring sash windows with glazing bars and architraves. Some 20th-century casement windows are present in the west wall. To the south of the house is a red brick boundary wall with half-round copings and stone gate piers.
