Description
Childwall House and Bedlam is a 17th-century house that has been significantly altered and remodeled. It is now divided into two dwellings. The exterior is rendered and colorwashed, topped with a reed-thatched roof. The building has two storeys and attics. The windows of Childwall House date from the 19th century, featuring one ground floor sash window with an architrave and leaded glazing, along with two three-light casements on the first floor. There is a 20th-century part-glazed entrance door with a thatched porch roof supported by brackets. The 'Bedlam' section has all 20th-century casement windows, a door, and a porch. The building retains a brick modillion eaves course and has internal gable chimney stacks. To the west, there is a lower gabled thatched wing with an internal gable stack, as well as later pantiled lean-tos on the west side and at the north gable. There is one gabled attic dormer with a 20th-century casement on the west side. An attached Japonica cottage on the south gable is not of special interest.
