Description
The Church of St Peter is a former parish church that is now disused and in ruins. The structure dates from the 15th century, featuring an earlier round tower that has since collapsed. It underwent significant restoration in the 19th century. The church is constructed of flint with limestone dressings, and the north porch is made of brick. The roofs are covered with slate.
The remains include a west tower, nave, chancel, and both north and south porches. Most of the windows are 19th-century replacements, although the southeast nave window may be older, its details obscured by ivy growth. The roof structures are also from the 19th century, with arch-braced rafters and longitudinal braces to the ridge over the nave, featuring bosses at the intersections. The chancel roof is similar but includes pierced spandrels at the apexes and ogee-headed braces to the principal rafters.
A small area of wall painting on the north wall of the nave has been revealed by the removal of a monument. The chancel arch is off-centre and was rebuilt in the 19th century. The east window, designed in the 19th-century Perpendicular style, is flanked internally by ogee-headed niches. There is also a cusped piscina in the north wall of the chancel.
