Description

The barn dates mainly from the 18th century, but incorporates an earlier 17th-century core. It is constructed of red brick, timber frame, and has a sheet asbestos roof. The barn is a three-bay structure with an aisle to the south. Brick and pantile gabled ranges are attached to the south-east and south-west, creating a south-facing yard. The north side of the barn has central doors, while the south side has doors off-centre. The brick parapet gables feature tie irons and horizontal platbands at the eaves. Inside the barn, the 17th-century aisled construction is visible, with transverse sill plates below posts and outshut tie beams. Arch braces connect to the arcade plate and tie beams, and the north ends of the tie beams rest on wall posts with arch braces. The roof is supported by staggered butt purlins. The farmstead illustrates the development of farm buildings from the early 17th century through to the period after field enclosure.
