Description

Oaklands Farmhouse is a 17th-century house located on the north side of Norwich Road, Strumpshaw. It is built of colourwashed brick and flint with a thatched roof. The house has a two-storey, L-shaped plan with a lobby entrance.

The south elevation has a three-window range featuring widely spaced three-light casement windows, which have been enlarged and replaced in the 20th century, though retaining leaded glazing. A later hipped thatched porch aligns with a chimney stack featuring brick arcading, which has been rebuilt. A wing projects to the south-east, accentuated by two moulded brick pilasters and a first-floor brick band. This wing contains casement windows with leaded glazing, some with one light and others with two lights. The south gable has a parapet with moulded brick oversailing courses.

Inside, there is an internal chimney stack with twin octagonal brick shafts. The west gable is also parapeted, with moulded brick oversailing courses and a tumbling detail at the apex. Later lean-to additions have been made on the east side, and the north gable is weatherboarded. A battered brick buttress, semi-circular in plan, sits at the junction of the two wings. A single first-floor three-light casement window and 20th-century double doors leading to the garden are also present.
