Gothic Barn, Amisfield Mains

The Gothic Barn at Amisfield Mains is an early 19th century farm building designed in a castellated Gothic style. Originally a symmetrical two-storey structure, it has been altered to function as a single unit internally. The building is constructed from conglomerate (clinkstone) with ashlar stone used for the gables and irregularly coursed rubble on the sides.

The east and west gables feature matching designs with tall moulded crenellations. The central bay is tall and recessed, designed in a Gothic arch, and includes boarded doors at both the ground and first floors, as well as hoists at the first floor. A later metal stairway has been added to the west gable. The south elevation consists of six bays with six raised windows and six openings, most of which have been infilled at ground level. There are also two louvred vents located at the eaves level. The north elevation was originally similar to the south but has undergone significant alterations, including a large doorway that has been moved towards the west gable.

The windows are fixed and consist of six lying panes, with an additional six skylights on the south roofslope. The roof is covered in graded grey Scotch slates.
