Description
Amisfield Mains is a farmhouse likely built around 1800, with significant later alterations. It features a three-bay design, two stories plus a basement, with a dominant rectangular shape to the south, complemented by a lower T-plan block at the back. The exterior is harled and painted, accented with contrasting margins, and includes a cornice and a band course at ground level on the main elevations.
On the southeast elevation, the central bay is slightly advanced and topped with a plain pediment. This bay is notable for having no ground floor opening, as the door has been relocated to the west elevation. The overall design remains symmetrical with three bays, featuring windows that are shortened on the basement and first floor.
The west elevation appears unbalanced and irregular, with a sunk basement. The southern bay of the main block is advanced and has a central window. Behind this block is the main pilastered doorway, which is accessed by ashlar steps leading to a four-panel door topped with a diamond-pane fanlight. Smaller windows are located to the north, with no openings on the first floor.
The east and north elevations are plain and irregular. The southern bay of the main block again features a central window, while the other windows on the ground, first, and basement levels are arranged irregularly. A door at the rear (north) leads to the ground level where an earlier lean-to has been removed, and there is also a door at the basement level.
The basement is protected at the front and rear by decorative cast-iron railings on a stone coping. The windows are primarily timber sash and case, mostly with 12 panes, although there is one modern picture window near the rear door where the earlier lean-to was taken down.
The roofs are piended and covered with graded grey Scotch slates. There are five irregularly placed stacks, which are harled with ashlar copes and various chimney cans.
