Gothic Cottage, Amisfield Mains

The Gothic Cottage at Amisfield Mains is an early 19th-century lodge building designed in a castellated Gothic style. It has a symmetrical, three-bay, two-storey appearance. The front is constructed of conglomerate (clinkstone) with ashlar detailing, while the sides and rear are made of irregularly coursed rubble.

The front elevation is highly stylized and features a gabled design with a raised, moulded, and crenellated skew. The central bay is designed to resemble a two-storey dummy tower facade, which includes a Gothic arched doorway with a plain boarded door and blind Gothic windows on the first floor. There are two blind Gothic windows on the ground floor, with a band course running between them. Each side elevation has two dummy windows aligned towards the rear, and the upper windows are foreshortened. The rear elevation has a single blind window at ground level.

All the windows are blind and are lined out to resemble small-paned sash and case windows. The roof is covered in ungraded grey slate, with a plain rear skew and no chimney stacks.
