Description
The East Gate-Lodge at Clifton Hall is an early 19th-century single-storey, three-bay Gothick lodge. It is constructed from squared and coursed red sandstone, featuring raised ashlar margins and quoins. The building has a rectangular plan with bowed ends to the east and west, and there are modern additions to the rear and east side.
On the south elevation, there is a centrally located door that is now blocked, flanked by windows. The left window retains its original glazing, while the right window has a lower section with four-pane glazing and an upper section with Y-tracery. The eaves cornice and projecting eaves add to the architectural detail.
The west elevation features a bowed wall with a centrally placed window, which has a four-pane lower section and a two-pane upper section. The east elevation has a window in the center with original Y-tracery in the upper portion and a four-pane lower section. A modern addition is present at the north corner.
The north elevation consists of a modern addition built onto the rear of the house. The lodge is topped with a piend slate roof that has a central corniced ridge stack. The Gothick style is further emphasized by the latticed windows with Y-tracery in their upper portions.
