Description

Bridge No. 17 on the Union Canal was designed by Hugh Baird around 1820. It is a semi-circular bridge made of coursed sandstone, featuring dressed voussoirs and a soffit. The bridge has an advanced keystone with the number 17 inscribed on it. The wallhead is constructed from ashlar stone. The parapet railings alternate between straight and curved posts, and they are finished with octagonal piers that have corniced capitals.
