Description

The Almond Aqueduct on the Union Canal was designed by engineer Hugh Baird around 1820. It features five tall semi-circular arches that are supported by battered rock-faced piers. The arches are made with dressed voussoirs. At the base, there is a coursed stone parapet with an ashlar string course, topped with ashlar coping. The iron parapet railings are interrupted by piers that rise as square, coped ashlar dies between the railings.
