Description
Bridge No. 18 on the Union Canal was designed by engineer Hugh Baird around 1820. It is constructed from stugged coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a segmental arch made of dressed voussoirs and has an advanced keystone with the number '18' inscribed on it. The wallhead coping is adorned with alternating straight and twisted wrought-iron railings, and there are octagonal terminal piers at either end.
