Description

Bridge No. 16 on the Union Canal was designed by Hugh Baird around 1820. It is constructed from coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a segmental arch with a hog's back profile, dressed voussoirs, and a soffit. An advanced keystone is inscribed with the number 16. There is a string course, and railings are placed between the parapet walls, which have slab coping.
