Description
Gardener's Cottage, located 340 metres south-southwest of Dunham Lodge, is a former gardener's cottage dating from around 1785. The building is constructed of brick with gault brick dressing and features a slate roof. It has a square plan with a later side extension and stands two storeys tall, with all openings designed in a Gothic style with a two-centred arch.
The entrance facade has three bays, featuring a central front door with a blind and painted two-centred fanlight, along with a blind and painted quatrefoil above. This door is flanked by a pair of tall windows, each with only the lower third glazed. The east facade also has a pair of similar windows, but these are fully glazed and have flush gault brick rusticated dressings. The building is further characterized by flush gault brick rusticated quoins and corbelled-out dentilated gault brick cornices. The roof is shallow-pitched and pyramidal, topped with a central stack.
