Description
The stable block at The Old Stables, formerly part of Woodside Place, dates from the mid to late 18th century and is now used as a workshop. It is constructed of red brick with vitrified headers and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and is designed with a three-window centre and projecting two-window end blocks, the right end of which was built higher in the 20th century. The centre section has three shallow relieving arches on the ground floor, flanked by 8/8-pane sash windows beside a central entrance. The first floor features arches with 4/4-pane sashes. The central bay slightly projects and has an open-pedimented gable that includes a clock in a moulded stone surround. There is a first-floor sill band with a stone cymatium. Inside, the stable block retains original arched partitions with moulded wooden piers, and the south side includes original feed boxes.
