Description

Russell's is a later 18th century red brick villa that was altered in the 19th century and was formerly part of the Cassiobury estate. The building is two storeys high with hipped low pitch slate roofs and features modillion eaves cornices. The entrance front was originally three bays but has been extended to four. The centre of the façade breaks forward and is topped with a pediment. There is a sill band at the first floor, and the windows are glazing bar sashes with slightly cambered heads.

A projecting stone porch, added around 1900, is glazed between piers and sits on a high plinth, with a cornice and balustrade above. To the left, there is a projecting ground floor brick extension. The garden front to the south is similar but has modern bargeboards on a wide pedimental gable and consists of five bays. The projecting centre features a large full-height semi-circular bow with three windows, topped with a lead roof that extends into the gable. A central stone Tuscan pedimented doorcase is present, along with a modern ground floor extension to the left and a 19th century triple window to the right.

The long plain east front has later additions, while the north service wing, mostly from the 19th century, includes a small cupola bellcote with a vane dated 1718, which may have been removed from the summer house of Watford House, demolished in 1904.
