Description
South Lodge is a lodge dating to approximately 1835, originally known as Russell Farm Lodge and built for Russell’s. It was originally illustrated as being clad in patterns of split logs in Britton’s Account of Cassiobury in 1837. The lodge is constructed of painted brick and has a cross-plan layout, featuring a central triple chimney stack with a moulded cornice and base. The roof is covered with fish-scale tiles. The lodge has gable ends to the north and south, a three-sided canted bay to the west, and a hipped gable to the east. It features plain chamfered window surrounds to the west bay. The south gable has renewed barge-boards, and there is a small projecting three-sided window bay with a tiled roof and leaded casements with top lights. A blank panel with a chamfered border is positioned above.
