Description

The steps, walls, and gates located about 250 meters southeast of Moor Park are associated with the Old Pleasure Grounds designed by Capability Brown around 1755 to 1760. These structures date from the late 19th century and are constructed of ashlar. The central flight of steps features piers at the lower level that flank walls, all of which have moulded plinths and caps. At the upper level, the walls extend outward and are adorned with balustrades. The end piers exhibit banded rustication and scrolled buttresses. The walls then return to another pair of rusticated piers before breaking outwards again. Wrought iron gates are situated at the top of the steps. This site is included for its group value.
