Description

The London Coal and Wine Duty Boundary Post is a marker from 1862, cast by Henry Grissell. It is made of a white painted cast iron square column with chamfered corners and a pyramidal top. Just below the top, the necking features a shield divided into quarters by a red raised cross, with a red dagger in the top left quarter, representing the City of London crest. The column has a raised inscription that reads ‘4 & 25 VICT CAP 42’, referring to the 1861 London Coal and Wine Duties Continuance Act. At ground level on the rear of the post, there is a maker's mark that states 'Regents Canal Iron Works London / Henry Grissell / 1862'.
