Description

Ebury and Batchworth Cottages are a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating back to the 17th century. The house was extended and altered in the late 18th or 19th, and 20th centuries. It was likely originally timber-framed, but now has a brick casing and extensions, all rendered with roughcast. The roof is tiled. Originally, the house had four bays and an unusual plan, with a central stack and an entrance on the left. The building is two storeys and has an attic. The ground floor entrance is at the original left end, with a later gabled timber porch. The ground floor windows are timber mullion and transom casements, with six lights each, except for one with four lights, and all have leaded panes. There is a plat band. The first floor has cross casements. There are two hipped dormers, each with two lights. A stack is located on the front of the ridge. The house was extended to the left by one bay, with a ground floor entrance and glazing bar sash windows set in reveals. A large hipped dormer is also present. An extruded end stack exists. To the right is a lean-to addition with a gabled entrance porch. At the rear is a full-height gabled stair wing and a smaller wing with a ridge parallel to the main roof, alongside a lean-to outshut. The interior was not inspected.
