Description

The London Coal Duty Marker on the county boundary is a Grade II listed structure dating from 1861. It was cast by H. Grissell at the Regents Canal Ironworks. This cast-iron square pier stands one and a half metres high and is painted white with red trim. It features chamfered corners and a pyramid head. The City of London crest is displayed on the necking, and there is raised lettering on the front face of the shaft that reads '4 and 25 Vic. Cap 42'. This marker indicates the extent of coal duty to the boundaries of the Metropolitan Police District.
