Description

Potten's Farm House is a house that dates back to the 16th century, with parts rebuilt in the early to mid 17th century. It was refronted in the 18th century, altered around 1800, and extended in the late 19th century. The building features a timber frame with a brick front and roughcast finish, topped with a slate roof. It consists of a one-bay kitchen block that replaced the hall, with a projecting crosswing to the left, and is two storeys high.

The entrance is located in the crosswing and has a panelled door with a bracketed hood. On the ground floor, there is a timber cross casement window, and a part plat band leads to the first floor where there is a three-light casement. The gable displays exposed purlins. There is a 19th-century stack positioned at a right angle to the main structure. The one-bay block to the right has timber three-light casements, and the entrance in the right gable end is towards the front, also featuring a hood.

The house has an original large external stack with three flues, two of which are set diagonally. At the rear right, there is a separately roofed 19th-century block. The right gable end has a two-light casement with a cambered head. The two-bay rear elevation includes an entrance and two-light casements, also with cambered heads. The rear gable end of the crosswing is made of rendered flint and brick, featuring two and three three-light casements and an entrance. Attached to the left is a one-storey weatherboarded outbuilding with a slate roof. Inside, the house has a clasped purlin roof with windbraces.
