Description
Old Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with a 18th-century brick front and early 19th-century windows. The exterior features plum brick arranged in a chequered pattern with blue headers and light red brick dressings, topped with steep old red tile roofs. This large L-plan house is set back from the road and faces east, consisting of a tall two-storey front range with three cells and an internal chimney plan, along with a lower two-storey rear wing at the northwest. The front range has a south internal gable chimney, likely added when the brick front was constructed. The symmetrical eastern front is an imposition on an older planned building. Each end of the front has triple sash windows on both floors, with a smaller central sash window featuring 2/2 panes above the entrance, which is flanked by two narrow windows. The entrance has a four-panel door, with the top two panels glazed, set in a heavy moulded surround. Additional features include a chamfered plinth, a plat-band, decorative vertical bands of blue brick, flush box sashes, and segmental arches on the ground floor. The height of the roof suggests the presence of original attics, and the top of the main stack has been rebuilt in 18th-century brick. The rear wing has four windows.
