Description
Simons Close is a house that dates back to the 17th century or earlier, with southwest and north extensions added in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a timber frame on a stuccoed brick base, with roughcast walls and steep old red tile roofs. The house is L-shaped and set back from the road, facing east.
The main part of the house is 1 and a half stories high and includes a hall range with a rear wall chimney that has one diagonal shaft. There is a lower north extension with an external gable chimney. The south crosswing is tall and two stories, projecting significantly to the front, and has a large internal chimney with a moulded base and three square diagonally set shafts along the roof ridge. There is also a narrower two-story southwest extension.
The hall range features two windows and two corresponding gabled dormers at the eaves, with three-light leaded casement windows and two-light dormers. A plank door is located in a gabled roughcast porch at the center. The front gable of the crosswing has a three-light window on each floor.
