Description

Applegarth is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier. It features a timber frame that is exposed on the first floor of the east wing, with roughcast surfaces elsewhere. The rear end of the east wing is cased in red brick, and the house is topped with steep old red tile roofs. It has an L-shaped plan, facing south, with a 1.5-storey north range and a two-storey east crosswing that projects to the front, which includes an internal rear gable chimney. The north range has an internal-chimney, lobby-entry plan. The windows are flush casement style. The crosswing displays close studding between jowled posts, with straight tension braces on the upper part.
