Description
The garden wall, gates, and gate piers are located on the north and east sides of Knebworth House, built around 1845 by H E Kendall. Designed in a robust Tudor style that complements the house, the structure features stucco over red brick. The wall is balustraded with a quatrefoil frieze and has traceried piers at intervals, which serve as heavy stepped buttresses on the park side. The northeast angle includes a polygonal bastion. On the north side, there are both double and single gates flanked by massive composite piers that are square at the base and octagonal at the top. The gates are made of cast iron with stiff leaf foliage designs. The wall to the east of the gates is in poor repair. This structure holds significant group value with Knebworth House.
