Description

The walls, gate, and gate piers to the walled garden at Stagenhoe Park, located 60 meters to the east-north-east of the mansion, date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The west, north, and east walls are 18th century, while the south wall, which includes the gate and piers, is from the 19th century. The walls are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and stand approximately 4 meters high, although they are significantly taller at the northwest corner. The south wall slopes down towards the east.

On the west side, there is a minor gate flanked by square stucco piers topped with large ball finials. The south face features square V-rusticated piers at intervals that rise higher than the walls, with the top block displaying a relief of a modeled basket of fruit. The walls are capped with oversailing moulded stone caps and have a York-stone coping that sweeps down in stages.

The gate piers, specifically the second and third from the west, are adorned with garlanded heads on the top blocks and feature pairs of cast metal stags with crowns around their necks. The elaborate wrought iron gate includes scrolled side panels, a tulip motif beneath the top of the gate, and a two-stage overthrow topped with a ducal coronet. Additionally, large urns are positioned at the southwest corner and on the fourth pier from the west.
