Description
The Barns Restaurant is a building that incorporates two timber-framed barns from the 17th to 18th centuries, which were relocated in 1971-1972 from Old Knebworth. The barns are arranged at right angles within a modern weatherboarded structure that has plain tile roofs. The Manor Barn, located on the eastern side, is the older of the two, likely dating to the first half of the 17th century. It features five bays, a clasped purlin roof, straight wind braces, and slightly curved braces supporting heavy tie beams. The Lodge Barn is from the later 17th century or early 18th century and has an aisled construction with six bays. It includes gabled cart entrances on the western side, a queen strut roof, and aisle posts resting on tall modern brick piers, with braced ties connecting to the side walls.
