Description
No. 20 is a house located on High Street in Pirton, dating from the 17th century or earlier. It has a timber frame and is roughcast, topped with a steeply pitched thatch roof. This small house has one and a half stories, with its north gable facing the road to the east. The layout consists of two cells, featuring an internal chimney that rises on the rear slope. The entrance is now at the south end of the front, leading into a lean-to extension at the north end, which has a tiled roof. The east front has three windows and two swept dormers at the eaves, with three-light flush casement windows. There is a plank door leading to the north lean-to, and two windows at the rear, which indicate the presence of a staircase behind the chimney. A projecting timber at the apex of the north gable suggests that the roof may possibly be of cruck type.
